Fished with John and Mary Lou Post yesterday on Sugar Lake.... Started out early fishing the shallow bite on rocky points and humps with brush and caught male bass in the 4 to 5pound class and then went out a little deeper fishing humps on main lake coves and found several places holding numbers of small fishin the 2 to 3 pound range.... Worked through the small ones to catch some nice ones... Plum Ol Monster worms by Zoom seemed to be what they wanted....
Took Chip and Cinco Woods to Los Blancas and had a great day.... Fish were on the beds and ready to bite.... had some really nice fish on Watermelon Red JoBaby Jigs tipped with Falcon Lake Craw colored Rage Craws. Most fish were snug up to the base of hardwood trees in 2 to 7 foot of water.... Los Blancas is located just accross the dam at Falcon Lake about twenty minutes from the dam near the town of Mier.
Fished with Jared and Christian yesterday.... After the front on Tuesday and the bright Full moon the fish just would not coporate with us until about 12:oo. The winds subsided and changed directions and the fish started to bite and chase shad... We Salvaged a slow morning bite with a decent afternoon and wound up with some nice ones. Numbers were down this trip but some quality fish showed up. We basically hide from the wind for most of the morning and then were able to fish main lake points with rock using Strike King Rage Craws in Watermelon Red and JoBaby Spinnerbaits in Chartruese and White. All fish came from less than 10 foot of water....
I took Woody Jarmen to Sugar the other day and caught a bunch of nice fish Flippin the hard wood. The spawn is starting to wind down but there are still lots of fish shallow... Watermelon Red and Greep Pumpkin Saphire Rage Craws were what was working for us. Braided line is essential to get these fish out of the heavy brush..... Fish 2 to 6 foot on Rocky or hard botom points and humps to find the fish.... It should not be too long before the deep bite take off again....
![]() I fished with Mark and Dale yesterday on Falcon... We fished the Texas side of the lake and found some nice fish shallow on rocky points in 3 to 6 foot.... We caught a lot of fish on Plastics (Sinkos and Craw worms in Watermelon red majic and Pumpkin Green. The day was really nice with overcast skys most of the day.... So Spinnerbaits ruled the big fish.... We fished deep for a while off some rocky points in 20 to 30 foot (That pattern is starting to work) but our best bite was on the shallow points....Look for rocky points with scattered brush in 3 to 6 foot. If you see white birds on the bank that is a sure sign of baitfish in the area. Watch for fish chasing shad... Use a spinnerbait in the areas where the fish are chasing shad....Chartruese and White Gold Baby and Falcon Specials are working for me...
I go out again tommorow so I will give another report on our findings...... Bass are on the beds at Sugar Lake
If your not down here on Sugar you are missing out.... I took three days and spent them on a "ME" trip. One where I didn't have to worry about me catching all the big fish instead of my clients catching them.... every now and then I like to just go fishing and not be the guide.... So I got a kitchen pass and called my good friend Rodrigo Rodriquez at "Campo El Mirador" located beside the dam at Sugar and got a room for two nights.... What a great guy and great accomadations... More on Campo El Mirador later... Wednesday was a very windy day with huge waves on Sugar and fishing was tough. Only had four fish in the three hours I stayed out he lake.... Wind and Waves made it hard to fish so I came in and relaxed.... Day two: Less Winds but rain storms through the night and early morning... Sun came out about mid day and so did the fish.... Almost all my fish came from waters less than 6 foot. I even caught some in 1-1/2 foot.... Best five were around the 30 pound mark. Day Three: about the same result in fish and pounds.... Quite a few numbers of males with some nice females to boot.... NO real Giants but if your not happy catching 5 and 6 pounders then you might want to rethink fishing. Pattern: Look for any hard bottom areas... most any point {Slow Slooping} with rock or Pebbles and brush are holding spawning fish... I found 75 degree water temps in several places... hard wood trees/bushes mixed in with brush seemed to hold the fish.... Baits: I used Watermelon Red or Green Pumpkin colored Strike King "Rage Craws" Flippin the Hard woods and Bushes with heavy Braid and stiff rods... Big Fish in Shallow cover equals heavy equipment...
